According to Ayurveda, health is a perfect state of balance among the bodies three fundamental energies or doshas (vata, pitta and kapha) and an equally vital balance among body, mind and the soul or consciousness. As stated by Vasant Lad in his The Complete Book of Ayurvedic Home Remedies.

Eating

If you want to stay ‘disease-free’ then have a close look at what you eat. Emphasise more on fresh, seasonal, organic fruits and vegetables. Stay away from oily-junk food, as far as possible. We hope you enjoy our Ayurveda everyday tips as they are an easy place to start to heal your life.

Do the milk therapy

If you’re frustrated because you are tirelessly shifting position and not getting enough sleep, then try adopting a sleep hygiene program. Often throughout the day we find that our mind has been travelling faster than our body. Especially if you are looking at a screen for hours at a time. For this reason we started our Sleepy Time Yoga therapy class to teach you how to slow down.

Also in spite of a tiring day having a drink of warm milk can help. This technique will help you to fall asleep quickly and is best for vata and pita. When heated add 1/2 a tsp of ghee and sprinkle a little nutmeg on top. Refrain from eating the seeds of the nuts and drink this 30 minutes before bed.

Restful Sleeping

To enjoy the benefits of Ayurveda make sure you rise up between 5- 6am. This is the freshest and purest time of the day. Our Good Morning Yoga therapy class helps you to stretch and breath out any kinks in your body and mind to release anxiety. Enjoy grasping the freshness present the morning air. As a result you will spend your rest of the day with positive vibes and energy.

Our body needs time to rejuvenate and to detoxify, and the best time for this process is sleeping. By implementing sleepy hygiene into your routine you will experience a good nights sleep. As a result the inner cells work in harmony to strengthen the immune system. This vibrant energy will circulate throughout our body.

It is so important to turn off all screens at least one hour before bedtime. Likewise there is a lot of research on the damaging effects of technology on the pineal gland.

Ayurveda every day tips advise it is best to aim to be in bed by 10pm. Also taking a warm bath before bed with essential oils such as lavender or sandalwood will calm you down. Complement this with slow and deep breathing in our Sleepy Time Yoga Therapy class.

Exercising

Walk for a better life and practice the art of Ayurveda and daily living in harmony. Go for a morning walk or just walk to take a break from a very stressful day at work. Remember one of the best ways to soothe the busyness of your mind is to take a conscious breath. Walking is one of the best forms of exercise and encourages deep breathing. It provides mental, physical and emotional peace without straining your body.

Include exercises like cycling, yoga or any other aerobic exercise in your daily regime. It is important to incorporate at least 30 minutes of exercise to keep disease away. As well as maintaining your weight you will enhance your body’s blood circulation.

Time management

Construct a schedule of all the things that you will be doing throughout the day and stick to it. It can be a good practice to write your list before jumping into bed and journal the days events. Sticking to a planned schedule helps to avoid disturbance but don’t worry if things do not go to plan. Yoga helps us to be flexible of body and mind. Likewise a vata constitution will particularly benefit from having a regular routine. This will create a mental, physical and emotional balance.

Eliminate toxins

As soon as you get up, try to clear your bodily toxins in the form of urine or elimination. If you delay your natural urges, then indirectly you will be poisoning yourself. In turn this will create chronic problems later in life. Maintain a schedule to get rid of dirt from your body.

Hydrate

Drink sufficient amount of water every day. A good practice is to start the day with a warm water and lemon juice with 1/2 tsp or turmeric. Also one of the best ways to monitor your water intake is to have your own bottle to refill. There are stainless steel water bottles that keep hold the temperature of the liquid. Another benefit is that you will be aware of the number of times you refill the bottle and have a goal to reach each day.

Drinking warm water is beneficial for vata and you can easily add spices such as ginger, fennel or cardamon. Water is the best source to flush out toxins from the body. Fresh water will ensure a smooth running of the digestion system.

Warm oil massage

An excellent start to the day is with an oil massage, to safeguard yourself from wrinkles and other ageing damage. It will soothe the body and help to prevent drying out of the tissues and nurtures your mind and body. Besides, it also gives a healthy looking complexion to your skin. For each dosha there is a suitable oil to use that will compliment your constitution.

Limit pre packaged goods

Instead of using artificial skin products, opt-in for totally natural products on your skin. The best way to nourish your skin is by making your skin-packs by yourself. It is best to use the oil that best suits your body type. Another option is to make your own skin-packs using natural edible ingredients. These can include honey, rose water, cucumber, almonds, milk and yoghurt that moisturise your skin etc.

Get out into nature
